As the year ends I wanted to take a moment to thank our clients and our team for what was a big year; as well as provide a glimpse into the types of searches we helped our clients with – both our Technology and Consumer teams, and our RPO Division.
The fun part of recruitment is working with high quality brands and people, and 2017 saw us working with some very exciting clients to hire some of the best and brightest people across both the Technology and Consumer markets.
I would like to thank every one of our clients for placing their trust in us to provide them the quality of service they expect when making critical hires in this most challenging market.
While January and February saw only one executive level position filled (Sales VP role for a large technology client in the RPO team), March saw orders from clients in executive and management level placements for all teams: a Country Manager for a digital marketing technology vendor, an IT Director role for a Pharma client, a Country Manager for a luxury goods brand, 3 x Sales Directors, a CFO, and a host of other individual contributor roles across the RPO, Technology and Consumer Practices.
April saw the closing of another Country Head role for a consumer healthcare company, an HR Director for a technology vendor, and a lot of other individual contributor roles mainly through our RPO business, while May and June produced some nice wins in Consumer Practice with a large scale market mapping project, a Marketing Director and SCM Manager. The Technology Team also placed a Marketing Director, Inside Sales Director, an eCommerce Director (APAC), a Country Manager for a digital marketing vendor and a Sales Director for a leading storage vendor.
We’ve never been a mass market or volume agency and in fact have quite a narrow list of clients that is vital to us in the depth of relationship and quality of work we do for them, mostly on an exclusive basis in Japan.
In Q3 we brought on new leadership around operations and our RPO business. The operational improvements timed nicely with increased demand from our clients and it was in Q3 where things really took an upward turn, resulting in a quarterly company revenue record. The Technology team placed another Sales Director for the same storage technology vendor as in Q2, and an SE Director, several Senior Sales Managers at a mobility client, as well as a Country Manager for an AdTech client, with other individual roles balancing things out. The quarter was a little slower for the Consumer team but notable success came with an APAC Retail Operations role and Senior SCM Manager role. The RPO team produced a huge effort across the board filling a wide range of individual roles, as well as an Engineering Director and Sales Director position.
Q4 saw back to back company quarterly record results as demand from clients in all practices remained high. The Consumer team led the way helping fill Country Sales Head, Sales Director, as well as an HR Director roles at a major pharmaceutical client, a Government Affairs Head role for an MLM client, a Training Manager for a luxury goods client, a Head of Strategy role and an IT Director and Operations Director role for a major tobacco company. Even with all of this, the star placement for the Consumer team was certainly the Country Head for a very high flying “unicorn” client in the shared workspace sector. Meanwhile the Technology clients had us filling 4 x Country Manager/Executive placements – one of which was the largest deal of the year for the company.
Sales Growth: 73% YOY
Highest Candidate OTE: ¥45,000,000
Median Candidate Salary: ¥12,200,000
Exclusivity on Searches: 86% (includes RPO’s)
Country Head/Executive Searches: 14%
We are proud of the quality of clients we represent here in the Japan market as our client list includes some of the hottest names in technology and consumer brands. We’ve never been a mass market or volume agency and in fact have quite a narrow list of clients that is vital to us in the depth of relationship and quality of work we do for them – mostly on an exclusive basis.
The first four years for us has been about solidifying our brand, people and execution, whilst maintaining an aggressive growth plan. In 2018 we will look to further establish our platform internally to improve operational efficiencies and in our delivery for clients both on the Agency side and RPO side. This will naturally see us work ever more closer with our parent company to utilize their vast resources in research, technology and delivery to global accounts.
Our mission is to raise the bar in terms of the quality of service expected within our industry, and our results this year suggest we are heading in the right direction. As I finish this post I would like to thank every one of our clients for placing their trust in us to provide them the service they expect when making critical hires in this most challenging market, and thank the people (“candidates”) who also placed their trust in us to make things happen.
Thank you to everyone for a great 2017,
and all the very best for the coming year ahead!!!
